Bounce Restart: Devtober - Post Mortem
Welcome to Bounce Restart, a game from the NimbleBeasts community.
Since we couldn't really agree on what kind of game we wanted to make, we decided this year to just make two. While the first team is still working on "ming, Inc - The Robot Software Company". We, Keldo and Sam, as relative beginners, dared to make a clone of "Clementine's Bit's Adventure Through Spike Hell".
What went right:
What we like most is the look and feel of the game. We like the pixel art and the slo-mo effect. What we are also happy about is that after several iterations we managed to get the physics to work the way we wanted it to.
What went wrong:
The planning. Although we expected that we would need a lot of support because this is our first Godot project, we still made the estimate far too optimistic. Especially with the physics we had a lot of help from the experienced people at NimbleBeasts. We had to adjust the implementations several times until the physics looked halfway "realistic".
What we have learned:
As we said before, this was our first game and we are very proud of it. Godot is super beginner friendly and we were able to create first prototypes quickly. We have created all graphics ourselves with Aseprite.
We had only planned one week, but it turned out to be almost two and the game is far from finished. We still want to make many more levels and we have ideas for this.
